a) Mock Mini-lectures
Beijing Oz has been promoting mock lectures as a means of attracting students. As Beijing OZ has its own IELTS school on our premises, we have classroom facilities with a data projector. When faculty members accompany representatives from the international office, we often recommend the faculty member to hold a mock lecture for 30 minutes. The aim of this lecture is to give Chinese students a taste of what a normal lecture in a university is like. The faculty member typically gives a condensed version of a week 1 introductory lecture, outlining the content studied, assessment tasks and reading required. Through this, students also gain an understanding of the level of English required for studying in overseas. Through promotion of these, Beijing Oz has managed to attract more students to study information sessions by universities. According to our surveys of these lectures, and the average student satisfaction rate is 80%.
b) Online Application Tracking
Beijing Oz in October 2005 introduced online application tracking. Students can use their username and password to log onto our website and obtain information on the universities they have applied to, their personal details and visa information. In 2006 we will be looking into expanding the functionality of this system.
c) Video Training
Another use of our video conferencing unit is to provide ongoing counselor training. University representatives no longer need to come to Beijing to provide our counselors with up-to-date course information, they can do this from their own university. This is another cost saving. |
