Beijing OZ has been an innovator in the Chinese education market by conducting university interview sessions through video conferencing. This allows us to promote universities more frequently as representatives do not have to come to China to conduct student information sessions in our office. At the same time, universities can save on travel costs as well. We have already conducted these interviews with seven Australian University and are currently rolling this out to other countries.

The process behind video interviews is as follows. Beijing OZ fixes a video interview time and date with the university. One to two weeks previous to this date Beijing OZ emails scanned copies of our student’s application to the university for assessment by the international office or admissions tutor. The date at which the documents are email to the university is determined by the length of time the international office or the admissions tutor requires to assess the applications. A few days previous to the interview date, the university informs us of the students whose application has been rejected. These students will not participate in the interview. On the day of the interview, staff members from the international office, faculty or assessment tutors can talk to each of the interviewed students individually through the video conferencing unit regarding their application and inform them of their outcome.

Not only does this process benefit the university but also the student. The student can have their application assessed within one to two weeks instead of the average processing time of one to two months. Secondly, Chinese students very much enjoying talking to the university face to face and video interviews provides them a prime opportunity to do so. In turn, it is an extremely attractive marketing tool for Beijing OZ. Finally, students look forward to the elation of being informed by a university representative that they have been accepted.

Not only can universities conduct these video interviews with Beijing head office, but also with our branch offices as well. All our offices are equipped with video conferencing units. Universities can access the student pool from all our offices now!
